Nicholas Lopez is a nationally certified orthopedic physician assistant specializing in spinal surgery at SportsMed Orthopedic Surgery & Spine Center. He received his undergraduate and Master’s degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2016. Additionally, he is a 15-year veteran of the U.S. Army and continues to serve his country and community in the National Guard as a physician assistant specializing in emergency medicine and providing medical care to active duty military.
Nicholas is experienced in diagnosing and treating common spine conditions such as cervical radiculopathy, lumbar radiculopathy, spinal stenosis, and spondylolisthesis. He performs detailed physical examinations of all new patients and provides quality care as guided by the physician board.
Nicholas assists on all spinal surgeries performed by Dr. Javier Reto such as anterior cervical discectomy and fusions, anterior/posterior/lateral lumbar fusions, and artificial disc replacements. He currently has a new patient clinic at the SportsMed Orthopedic Athens campus.
Nicholas lives in Athens, AL, with his wife, two kids, and dog. In his free time, he enjoys trail running, fishing, and coaching his kids’ baseball and softball teams. He attends church with his family and volunteers at the House of the Harvest where he organizes and supplies the food pantry for families in need. He strives to achieve success in his profession and to change lives.
